The Addison Airport facility combines two functions that are critical for the current operations and future growth of the airport into one building. Located on the airfield, the ground floor provides Federal Inspection Services (FIS) by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for a growing volume of business-related international air traffic. The second floor serves as the headquarters for the Addison Airport management and administrative staff.
The project scope includes a two-story building, landside parking, perimeter security, a new airside apron with provisions for aircraft customs clearing, and improvements to existing taxiways to accommodate larger aircraft.
In addition to housing vital services to the airport, the building serves as a gateway for international travelers and reception for those doing business at the airport. The architectural design provides a landmark and brand identity for Addison Airport consistent with their reputation of providing exceptional service and hospitality. The façade consists of perforated metal panel cladding backlit in an air cavity by linear LED wall wash light fixtures. The perforated metal and air cavity provide visual depth in the façade during daylight, and the backlit wall system provides a ‘soft glow lantern’ effect at night.
The interior design provides abundant natural daylight, panoramic views to the airfield, and inviting spaces, materials and furnishings throughout the administrative offices and FIS facility. The second-floor offices include a multi-function conference space and an expansive observation deck providing expansive views to the runway and airfield activity.
