This master plan provides a flexible roadmap for Sam Houston State University’s 330-acre campus in a ten-year timeframe. The plan provides direction on campus development as enrollment grows, and identifies strategies that increase campus visibility, activate campus precincts, simplify circulation networks and enhance a town-gown relationship. The plan also leverages the assets of the University’s three campuses to create a comprehensive vision with opportunities to address land and building use, space utilization, open space, mobility and infrastructure.
During the process, a variety of engagement tools were used to ensure maximum stakeholder participation through charrettes, open houses and surveys. The feedback informed the quantitative analysis and identified challenges needing to be addressed in the plan. In conjunction with the master planning process, a virtual data visualization and space planning tool was tailored to track campus space utilization and provide adaptability through implementation.
