The new 75-bed Panhandle State Hospital will be designed to support Forensic and Civil function. The primary goal of this facility is to provide high quality, de-stigmatized care in a safe and efficient building that Texans receiving services deserve. The building is comprised of three 25-bed inpatient units, each of which has three smaller residential sub-clusters, a nurse care support area, neighborhood program rooms to be shared by the 25 patients, and clinical staff office space. In both facilities, treatment diversity will be provided by developing a centralized “Downtown” treatment zone to be shared hospital wide. The Downtown zone offers spaces such as a theater, gymnasium, cafe, bank, salon, chapel, and greenhouse to supplement the neighborhoods that are associated with each of the inpatient units.
