The Page lab planning team provided complete lab planning services for the new public health building that includes BSL-2 and BSL-3 testing labs. The building consolidates existing HIV and TB labs that were originally located in three facilities in order to improve operational efficiency. The first floor of the two-story building features BSL-2 and BSL-3 labs to accommodate the following functions: accessioning, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), immunology, flow cytometry, microbiology, media prep, parasitology, food, water and air quality, and training. The project was a joint initiative of the US Department of State (PEPFAR program), the Centers for Disease Control and the Barbados Ministry of Health. Project team members worked closely with the various U.S. and local stakeholders to secure permit approval including the Environmental Protection Department, Building Department, Labor Department, Historical & Cultural Affairs Ministry and the Water and Sewerage agencies. Scope of services also included technical and administrative reviews of the bidder’s qualification statements, bid analysis and development of contract and value engineering provision. Page provided complete laboratory planning and design services for the building under contract to Swanke Hayden Connell Architects and the U.S. Department of State. Page also provided complete construction management services from the ground breaking ceremony to the ribbon cutting opening.
