Transformative design celebrates the Building 66’s industrial past while embracing forward-thinking concepts of sustainability and discovery. Our cost-effective solution upgrades and resurfaces the existing building envelope while increasing energy efficiency.
A new four-story atrium, where original structural elements contribute to a new industrial aesthetic, enhanced the public entry. The atrium provides an impressive welcome to clients; and its connection to work spaces makes it an ideal collaboration space that supports day-to-day as well as conference activity.
We collaborated with process engineering consultants to adaptively use a 45,000 GSF portion of the 200,000 GSF 1960s structure. The design reinvention creates a sustainable, state-of-the-art plant focused on testing and producing high-efficiency batteries for hybrid locomotives and electric vehicles. The original facilities large-scale equipment – including 50 to 300 ton gantry cranes – was carefully extracted to make room for the lab /manufacturing center and division headquarters.
