Winner of a Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) 2020 Merit Award of Excellence in Planning for an Existing Campus, this campus master plan provides a vision to support the University’s three primary goals: to be a model for student success; a great research university; and an exemplar for strategic growth and innovative excellence. The master plan leverages its several campuses by capturing each location’s unique context and strengths into a larger strategic vision known as “One University, Multiple Campuses”. The plan provides a guidance to expand enrollment growth, a path to access prestigious research funding sources, and a roadmap for partnership opportunities all as part of a highly collaborative effort.
The plan calls for nearly 5.3 million gross square feet of new educational space, plus housing and support facilities, across three of the campuses to accommodate the growth in campus populations and institutional priorities. This planning effort provided a comprehensive plan for growth of the University’s physical resources, outlined future development to advance the mission of UTSA, and provided resources for progress and innovation while respecting important elements of its history and organizational patterns as the University reached its 50th anniversary.
