Page is setting the bar for state-of-the-art behavioral health hospital design, and our work at the Nixon Forensic Center at Fulton State Hospital has been recognized with the 2024 National AIA Healthcare Design Award.
Access to recovery-based and trauma-informed care is paramount for psychiatric hospitals and this project features many innovative approaches to new therapy-supportive behavioral health design, such as diagnosis-based program communities, efficient observable paired living units, stigma-reducing spaces and exterior design, and multiple courtyard options. Design features include integrating light, biophilic design, and material texture throughout to help reduce anxiety, increase autonomy, and support safety for patients and treatment teams.
Page received the award during #AIA24 conference held in Washington, DC.
We’re proud that this facility is inspiring behavioral health architecture nationwide. Page extends great thanks to the American Institute of Architects, our client, Fulton State Hospital, and our design team partners: WSP, Marc Shaw Architects, and Turner & Townsend Heery.
